Bayerisches Musiker-Lexikon Online (BMLO) - Bavarian Online Encyclopaedia of Musicians

The Bavarian Online Encyclopaedia of Musicians (BMLO) is a digital reference work on Bavarian music history. It contains biographies, searchable data and digital media of musicians from or in Bavaria (current state territory). These musicians are composers and conductors, singers and instrumentalists, music publishers, constructors of musical instruments and music researchers who spent important phases of their lives and/ or their work in Bavaria, who performed their musical work in a professional manner and/ or had a considerable influence on the Bavarian music history, from all historical epochs up to the present.

 

In borderline cases and cases of doubt also such persons are taken into account that are not automatically recognizable as "musicians". Concerning the personnel of court music ensembles also directors are to be included, concerning the town musicians of the early modern age also trumpeters of lookout towers – provided that their work also has some noteworthy musical facets.

Information on the project

The Bavarian Online Encyclopaedia of Musicians is a joint project of the musicology division of the Department for Aesthetics and Art History of the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich, the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek and the Gesellschaft für Bayerische Musikgeschichte (Society for Bavarian Music History).

The project has been developed since 2004.
